Local Government in Oxfordshire

Oxfordshire has three tiers of local government, with the Parish Council as the first tier. The Parish council is involved in local planning and housing, promoting tourism, licensing, maintaining local amenities such as the playing field, Crecy Hill Nature Reserve and Tackley Heath, reporting Highways issues, grass cutting of public areas in Tackley, allotments and so on.

The second tier of local government is the District Council, West Oxfordshire DC, who are responsible for kerbside waste and recycling collection, planning, leisure and environment services, and the third is Oxfordshire County Council, who are responsible for education and libraries, social care, roads and parking, museums etc.

The Parish Council is a statutory body and is principally funded by an annual precept collected as part of the Council tax. The years budget is set at the budget meeting in December every year.  The Precept is added to the council tax, collected by the county or district council and paid to the parish in two six monthly instalments.  The Parish Council can apply for other funding such as grants and funding awards, but there is no funding directly from Central Government.

Monday Evening Surgeries
As PC surgeries have not been well attended over the last couple of years and most residents email or phone if they need to contact a Councillor, it was decided that in person surgeries between Council meetings would no longer be held.  If you would like to speak to the Councillors at a full Parish Council meeting, please contact the Clerk: clerk@tackley-pc.gov.uk
